Unit Inspection: Allies “Legio Patria Nostra” French Foreign Legion Kill Squad

Though the lands of France are still under the control of the Axis, its people and those loyal to the French way of life still fight for a free country once more.  The Legio Patria Nostra or “The Legion is our Home Country” still fight for the freedom of their peoples.  The French Foriegn Legion are regarded as some the strongest willed and toughest soldiers in the world.  The Legion is open to any person no matter their nationality or status.  Many critics state that the entire corp is made of nothing but thieves, cutthroats, and those will nothing left.  To some degree this is true as the Legion absolves all trespasses and crimes of its members giving them a clean slate and a chance for them and their family to become French Citizens.

The Legio Patria Nostra Kill Squad are as ruthless as they are tenacious and yet show esprit de corps well beyond even the most elite of many other nations troops despite its ranks being composed of men and women from hundreds of cultures and backgrounds.

Unit Inspection: Axis Armored Transport

Constructed on the highly recognizable HPW IV frame of the Konigsluther and Sturmkonig, the Axis Armored Transport is the bloc’s attempt to match the Allies mobility and capability to rapidly place troops on the battlefield.  While the Transport Panzer Walker (TPW) looks nearly as impressive as the Heavy Panzer Walkers (HPW) it is based off, this vehicle isn’t nearly as well armored to save on both costs and production times.  The TPW has two current versions: one, the far more available but lesser Prinzluther and the superior equipped Sturmprinz.

Unit Inpsection: SSU “Red Thunder” Red Guards Antitank Squad

The Red Thunder provide the SSU with much needed anti-armor infantry the bloc needed and was lagging behind.  Their engineers finally able to keep production costs of the PTRS-47 to levels capable of limited mass production making avaible to elite units such as the Red Thunder and Commissars.  The weapon is far from perfected as many of the Allies soldiers often refer to the weapon as the “Pretty Terrible Rocket System” due to its host of mechanical issues that interfere with operation requiring specialized training for field operation.  The Red Thunder are more than capable of overcoming these issues as each man in the squad is trained in the maintenance, repair, and operation of this powerful weapon.  They have earned their nickname from the thunderous peals of weapons.

Unit Inspection: Allies M2 Medium Series Combat Walker

The M2 Medium Series Combat Walker is the most popular and widespread of the new VK inspired machines of war for the Allies.  This series is time tested with almost 2 years of field use at this point.  The M2 is beloved at all levels of the Allied force structure from ASOCOM generals back at the Octagon for is low unit cost to battlefield commanders who enjoy the wide variety of roles this frame can serve to the mechanics who work on their durable and relatively straight forward systems.  This weapon of war is likely to be seeing combat service for years to come.

Unit Inspection: Axis Heavy Laser Grenadiers

The Heavy Laser candidates are hand picked from the already highly elite Laser Grenadier recruits for strength, intellect, and loyalty to the Axis bloc.  They are given the some of the best war equipment on the planet requiring both the physical burden of carrying it as well as the sharp mind to keep in perfect working order in any conditions or terrain that is required.  Each member of this super elite squad is given a laser weapon so powerful it was only recently made small enough for even a soldier in mighty Schwer power armor to wield it.

Deadzone Full Review

Now that I have a few games played of Mantic Games’ Deadzone created by Jake Thornton, I feel I can make a better, more accurate review of the sci-fi skirmish, “war [game] in urban battlezones” that I could when I wrote my first impressions.  I will quickly state that, in fact, I do like it better than my initial impression led me to believe.  However, I am still far from the glowing praise I have found from every other review I have personally read.  I think one of my big issues with Deadzone is that I want it to generally be a lighter game that it is.  This review doesn’t go over the rules too much and assumes the reader has a passing familiarity of how Deadzone is played.

Unit Inspection: SSU “The Drakoni” Commissar Squad

The Drakoni or Dragons are the squad choice for the Political Platoon’s Command Section.  Comprised of the most loyal individuals to the ideals of the SSU and SMERSH, the Commissar serves as much as a political advisory as they do military leader.  It is uncommon for such Commissars to form the Drakoni unless certain objectives as sought after.  Even more rare, it these squads to stay together more than a few months.  They are usually disbanded to allows the solo Commissars to aid other platoons.  The Commissars being trusted men of the bloc are also issued some of the best equipment avaible for battle.   They wear lighter body armor that has equal protection as the more common SSU personnel armor, but allows far more range of motion and ease of wearing.  They also have full access to SSU armories, though; the Drakoni ensure they can deal with a multitude of treats.

Showdown: Dust Warfare’s Super Weapons

In the setting of Dust, each of the three bloc’s (the Allies, the Axis, and the Sino-Soviet Union) all have a super weapon they have developed while studying the effects of the alien mineral known as VK.  The Allies ASOCOM scientists have used their knowledge of this material to develop Phaser technology which while inaccurate and unpredictable, allows their weapons to phase through armor as if it weren’t there at all.  The Axis, on the other hand, have engineered laser tech that fires a powerful beam of  burning light capable of heating metal so much that is can sometimes continue to burn and melt for even more damage.  Falling behind in the technology race is some respects, the SSU have recently developed Tesla weapons which harness the power of electricity which allows to focus on a spot can create a chain lightning effect as the electrical current arcs from one target to the next.  In article, I will go over each Bloc’s super weapon, the units that are equipped with it, and my thoughts about each.  Finally, I will make a comparison of these weapons to each other.
