Dust Battlefield Unit Assessment: Axis Battle Grenadiers/Panzer Killers

AKA: Storm Troopers and Tank Killers.

In this article, I am going to talk about two Axis Solider 2 units.  In part because they come in the same box, but also because I find these two units very hard to pick between which is odd to me.  I don’t have that issue with the Allies Gunners and Bot Hunters. I don’t even have that issue in Dust Warfare (although to be fair, the Panzer Killers are an update in Dust Warfare).

Dust Warfare Batrep 300 pts Axis vs. SSU (Secret Mission)

Here is another Dust Warfare battle report between me once again as the SSU and my usual Dust Warfare opponent once again as the Axis.  Right off the bat, I have to say this game was the most fun I have ever had playing Dust be it Dust Warfare or Dust Battlefield.

Dust Battlefield Army List: Axis “The Scavengers” (125 pts)

This entry is a bit of a vanity post of my current favorite army list for Dust Battlefield.  However, I will also use it to go over some of my thinking behind my strategy.  The first this I need to say is my gaming group likes playing at 125 points which is pretty close to the same amount of units that you could get in Dust Warfare more or less.  I find the average falls somewhere around ten units.

Dust Battlefield: Axis Grenadier Platoon

The Axis has some of the best trained, equipped, and most battle harden veterans of the war.  Still following the war doctrine of Blitzkrieg, these troops can quickly strike their opponents before they can form an adequate defense to the onslaught.  Their motto is, “Halten movng!

Unit Showdown: Axis Battle Grenadiers vs. Axis Laser Grenadiers vs. Axis Recon Grenadiers

By special request, this article will be about the three non-zombie, 5 man, non-Command Section, Solider 2 squads that the Axis bloc can field.  I will write a small bit on each unit of what their strengths and weaknesses are, as well as; what I think they are best used for.  Finally, I will give my thoughts on how each squad stacks up with each other. Operation: Orphues, Scenario VII: Escape from Zverograd

The Allies still hounded Manfred’s Marauders as they fled south toward the city’s shores of the Caspian Sea.  The Axis strike force was almost finished with their mission.  They recovered their target and need only escape the doomed city of Zverograd.  A feat easier spoken about than accomplished.  The weather which had allowed the retreat at the zoo had started to clear.  Even the cloud ceiling rose back into the sky enough to allow aircraft once more.  Manfred could hear the roar of the P-47 Pelican engines echo on the crumbling city building behind him.

Operation: Orphues, Scenario VI: Eurydice Found

The Zverograd Municipal Zoo took on the appearance of a Russian fairytale winter palace from where Manfred’s Marauders concealed themselves.  It was like looking into a snow globe as huge white flakes descended lazily from a dark gray sky onto the domed enclosures of the many exhibits of the zoo.  In comparison to much of the city, the Zoo had fared the conflict quite well.  There were only a few broken windows, and it didn’t appear as if any of the building had anything but light damage.  As Manfred observed the zoo with binoculars, he witnesses large black shadows darting from one pool of inky blackness to another.

Operation: Orpheus, Scenario V: Central Park at Night

“It’s quiet…too quiet.” Manfred softly spoke as his Marauders traversed through the fresh snow of Zverograd’s Central Park.  They were up to their waists in fresh powder and just as deep into the Allies territory. Yet, they hadn’t seen so much as ranger footprints in the deep snow. Snow fell thick on this cold night.  It created a strange surreal sensation of the world at peace even though every man of Manfred’s Marauder knew the contrary.  Manfred’s target was nearly within his grasp.  With a little luck…

Operation: Orpheus, Scenario IV: Slowing the Red Storm

Manfred’s Marauders observed the SSU force marching southward to several Axis controlled points of Zverograd.  While the force didn’t have much in the way of vehicles, it did seem to have a never ending line of soldiers.  More than enough to push through the current Axis battle lines if the controlled areas weren’t warned in time.

Manfred decided to send a team of Grenadiers south toward the former shopping center Gum to alert the forces their of this impeding red storm.  To buy the runner sometime and give the Axis forces time to reinforce, Manfred and his Marauder who try guerrilla tactics on these SSU troops.  They hoped that at least slowing this army would be enough.

Operation: Orpheus, Scenario III, Shadows of the Reich

“Mein Herr, the German transmissions are coming from that building.” Pointed the Kommandotrupp radioman to a long abandoned husk of Zverograd building that even the SSU had given up defending.  Most of the buildings were piles of concrete, rebar, and rubble.  The building with the strange German transmissions was notable in that it still stood, barely.

Manfred’s Marauders approached warily and wearily after moving all day to evade the SSU in the doomed city.  For the last hour, however; it seemed that the Axis expedition force had escaped the Soviet lines entering back into a no-man’s-land that none of the blocs even bothered fighting over anymore.  Still, it would make an excellent trap for the Marauders.
