Dust Battlefield Unit Assessment: Axis Heavy Recon Grenadiers (a.k.a. The Panzers)

The Axis was in need of power armor after several conflicts against the Allies were decided upon by their, at the time, new personal battle suits worn by such squads as the Grim Reapers and Tank Busters.  Axis commanders demanded research on similar suits that would turn their men into walking tanks.  Schwer armor was the creation of these demands.  The Axis armor proved to be far heavier and less mobile than the flight capable XM-22 armor of the Allies.  However, Schwer armor also boasted far more protective capability of the wearer which Axis generals more than happy to equip their rapidly dwindling supple of fighting men.

This article with review the stats and weapons of the Heavy Recon Grenadiers now known as the Panzers in Dust Battlefield.  It will also cover the Axis Heavy Grenadier Platoon which the Heavy Recon Grenadiers can be part of.  Additionally, I will review the Axis hero that may join this squad.  I will also cover the roles and some tactics I think the Heavy Recon Grenadiers can best be used for.  Finally, I want to give my general thoughts and opinions about this particular squad as they compared to both Axis and other bloc’s units.

Dust Battlefield Unit Assessment: Allies Grim Reapers

The Allies Heavy Ranger Attack Squad boast some the highest amount of firepower in all of Dust Battlefield.  They are fully capable of rolling up to 36 dice for a single attack.  That is not all.  They are also one of the fastest Soldier squads in Dust Battlefield as well.  Yet, I am not super impressed by them.  They are good unit, but their numbers on paper and their use in games have been slightly different things.  In this article I will talk about the Allies Grim Reapers and give my admittedly bias opinions about them.

Unit Inspection: Allies Hero Action Jackson

The Allies Hero Major Clayborne Jackson  has the raw physical strength, power, and badassery to wield two 60W Phaser Guns which even with the power assist from the XM-18-22 armor most soldiers have some difficultly handling just one.  Action Jackson exemplifies the, “Lead from the Front.” creed of the British Army.  He will not order his men to do anything he wouldn’t attempt himself.  It is this demonstration of courage and honor than bred loyalty from those Major Jackson leads and fame from the British media who have dubbed him: “Action Jackson.”

Unit Inspection: AXis “Sturmaffe” Blutkreuz Korps Kampfaffen Pionere Squad

The strange science behind the “Kampfaffe”, or “Combat Gorilla is still very much its infancy with numerous facets still completely unknown to the program’s top scientists.  Most subjects don’t even reach the level of intelligence needed to be controlled to be useful as the basic Axis Gorilla.  However, some subjects of these macabre experiments excel to superhuman levels of genius though many of these apes learn to conceal this from their human superiors.   Others are trained as Kampfaffe Pioniere, or the Engineers of the Gorillas, they are capable of both using and understanding complex tools and weapons during combat.  This ability allows the Axis to outfit them with frighteningly powerful weapons too heavy or dangerous for human operators.  While the Axis have made the creation of these units possible, the Sturmaffe are still very much not cost effective compared to other avenues of Wehrmacht.

Unit Inspection: Allies Hero Ozz 117

Little is known about this Allies hero.  It appears that great care was taken to erase this man of mystery’s past.  Even the top spies of both the Axis and SSU blocks have little information on Ozz 117 before taking that codename.  What is known is that he has a very efficient and effective military mind.  He has proven to be both uncanny and wily able to for survive attacks that should by all rights have slaughter him and his men.  He is not beloved by his fellow soldiers despite this as he appears to be a cold, calculating man that many troops feel he sees soldiers as just a resource to be used to gain victory more more or less important and any other means to win.

Unit Inspection: Allies “Legio Patria Nostra” French Foreign Legion Kill Squad

Though the lands of France are still under the control of the Axis, its people and those loyal to the French way of life still fight for a free country once more.  The Legio Patria Nostra or “The Legion is our Home Country” still fight for the freedom of their peoples.  The French Foriegn Legion are regarded as some the strongest willed and toughest soldiers in the world.  The Legion is open to any person no matter their nationality or status.  Many critics state that the entire corp is made of nothing but thieves, cutthroats, and those will nothing left.  To some degree this is true as the Legion absolves all trespasses and crimes of its members giving them a clean slate and a chance for them and their family to become French Citizens.

The Legio Patria Nostra Kill Squad are as ruthless as they are tenacious and yet show esprit de corps well beyond even the most elite of many other nations troops despite its ranks being composed of men and women from hundreds of cultures and backgrounds.

Unit Inspection: Axis Heavy Laser Grenadiers

The Heavy Laser candidates are hand picked from the already highly elite Laser Grenadier recruits for strength, intellect, and loyalty to the Axis bloc.  They are given the some of the best war equipment on the planet requiring both the physical burden of carrying it as well as the sharp mind to keep in perfect working order in any conditions or terrain that is required.  Each member of this super elite squad is given a laser weapon so powerful it was only recently made small enough for even a soldier in mighty Schwer power armor to wield it.

Unit Inspection: Allies “Red Devils” British Paratroops

Armed with miniaturized versions of the Allies super weapon, the phaser, and a suit of XM-18-22 power assault armor, the Red Devils are on of the most dangerous anti-armor soldier squads at the Bloc’s disposal.  Unfortunately, the size and weight of these phasers along with their power pacts are far too heavy for even elite soldiers.  Even the XM-18-22 armor is so weighted down that it makes equipping them with jump jets unfeasible.  This haven’t stopped British SAS paratroopers from using this equipment to drop in behind enemy lines with multiple “fast” drop parachutes at low altitude using the power armor to protect against impacts that would break the legs normal troopers.
